Colin's Wise Wednesday - 8th May 2019

Fifty Shades of Green describes our small garden.  Lyn and I went to the nursery last Wednesday to buy some seedlings for the hanging baskets. We bought a lot of pansies and as our garden consists mainly of two colours - white and 50 shades of green and seeing that you don’t get green pansies (really!!!!) Lyn agreed that we could get red and obviously white.  Yesterday “heavy laden” with potting soil and trays of pansies I started the process of planting.

The other morning, while “admiring” the hanging baskets and a few pansies already in bloom, I was thinking of the devotion for today. I was imagining what those poor plants were thinking (can plants think Colin??) when they were confined to those small “compartments” in the seed tray with very little room to grow, thinking that this was the best the world had to offer. They were then put in the boot of my car, wow, they must have thought that this was the end with the bang of the boot closing then darkness all around. After a short trip home the boot opened, light was all around, they were lifted out of their familiar confined surrounds, placed in fertile soil with space to grow and the sound of birds chirping, they must have thought they were in heaven.

To me this reminded me of Easter – despite the situation we find ourselves in we know that it isn’t the end; the best is yet to come.  Heaven awaits us because we believe that Jesus lived, died for the forgiveness of sin, was resurrected and has gone to prepare a place for us. The red pansies remind me of the Saviour’s blood shed for me and the white pansies remind me of an innocent Jesus that took my place on the cross and died for me…. “our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness”.

Let’s Pray. Because of the events of Easter my chains are gone I’ve been set free, my God my Savior has ransomed me; we have a future, an eternal future where darkness will be replaced by light. The doors of heaven have been opened for sinners like me, Your light displaces the darkness, the “boot” has been opened and we are lifted into Your waiting arms, no more restricted by our earthly bodies.  As we praise You help us to remember that our benefits for loving You are out of this world.  And God thank You for all the different shades of green. Oh how I love You. Amen.

God Bless ~ Colin &  Lyn
